  Rio Tinto expands R&D headquarters in Melbourne



    Mining giant Rio Tinto is expanding its Advanced Technology Research Centre in Bundoora, Melbourne.  The  facility can house up to 170 people and has newly designed conference areas and laboratory and pilot plant facilities, tailored to the mining industry’s needs.

  Victoria showcases carbon market capability



    Victoria is being positioned as an Asia Pacific carbon trading hub with establishment of a new taskforce and the launch of the Melbourne Carbon Market Services Guide.

  Strong surplus provides boost to infrastructure



    Releasing Victoria’s annual financial results, Treasurer John Lenders said the 2007-08 Annual Financial Report showed the net result from transactions was a $1482 million surplus, which would help to boost the State’s infrastructure spending.

  High energy pasture trial announced during Ausbiotech 2008



    The first Australian field trials of high-energy pasture grasses are set to begin in Victoria.  The new grasses have a reduced non-digestible content which, depending on the field trials, could mean farmers will be able to reduce the amount of feed they require for their stock.

 Heart scanner first in southern hemisphere



  In a major international coup for Victoria, Monash Medical Centre has been chosen as the first site in the southern hemisphere to receive a new Aquilion ONE dynamic volume CT scanner and to train health professionals in its use.

  Australian Synchrotron to cement world leading status



    The Australian Synchrotron is set to cement its place as a world leading research facility, with the addition of a new supercomputer equipped to reconstruct high-resolution, 3D phase contrast images while experiments are in progress.

    Victoria’s renowned Spring Racing Carnival, showcasing some of the world’s finest thoroughbreds and fashion, is expected to generate more than $500 million for the State’s economy this year.
