| First for Australian medical research at Synchrotron |

A $14.7 million upgrade to the new beamline at the Australian Synchrotron in Melbourne will allow scientists to research cancer, heart disease and osteoporosis more quickly and accurately.
The upgrade means the Australian Synchrotron will become one of only three facilities in the world to use synchrotron technology for the treatment of cancer.

| Victoria well-placed to deliver bionic eye |

Victorian Innovation Minister Gavin Jennings welcomed the Federal Government's $50.7 million investment to develop an advanced bionic eye and said Victoria was well-placed to deliver the project.
The new fund, to be administered by the Australian Research Council, will help to develop a high resolution bionic eye implant capable of restoring reading vision to people suffering from degenerative retinal conditions that account for 48 per cent of all adult blindness in Australia.

| World-leading carbon storage project to expand in Victoria |

In a milestone at the world-leading carbon capture and storage (CCS) project underway in south-western Victoria, 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide has been injected underground in the first year, prompting plans for the project's expansion.
The $40 million Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC) Otway Project is the Australia's first demonstration of the deep geological storage or geosequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2), the most common greenhouse gas.

| Victoria fast-tracks building developments for a $1.6 billion boost |

In a $1.6 billion boost to the local economy, the Victorian Government will fast-track five significant housing, retail and office space developments in line with its Melbourne 2030 and Melbourne@5 million planning strategies.
Projects to be fast-tracked include the $1 billion Pentridge Prison redevelopment, the $250 million expansion of Werribee Plaza and the $350 million development at Monash University's Caulfield campus.

| Powerful R&D in the wind for Vic automotive industry |

A unique partnership between the Victorian Government and the automotive industry has resulted in the construction of the southern hemisphere's most powerful wind tunnel in Geelong, an hour south-west of Melbourne.
The Environmental Wind Tunnel, located at the Ford Proving Ground in Geelong, will provide the automotive industry with a controlled environment to develop products suitable for all global markets.

Hundreds of thousands of filmgoers across the world are gaining a direct insight into the skill of Victoria's film practitioners, thanks to the international success of the Nicolas Cage film Knowing - filmed in Melbourne last year.
Knowing reached the top box office spot in the US, UK and Australia - showcasing Melbourne as a world-class location to shoot films.

| More flights from Middle East to Melbourne |

In a boost for international airline services to Victoria, more than 200,000 additional seats will be available annually on United Arab Emirates airline Etihad's flights between the Middle East and Melbourne.
Victorian Industry and Trade Minister Martin Pakula welcomed Etihad's new daily non-stop flights, which commenced this week, saying the Victorian Government had worked closely with Etihad and Melbourne Airport to introduce the new Abu Dhabi to Melbourne service.
