| New $1.4 billion oil and gas project for Victoria |

The green light has been given for a $1.4 billion joint project by ExxonMobil Australia and BHP Billiton Petroleum to develop the Turrum oil and gas field in the Gippsland Basin.
It is expected the Turrum oil and gas field contains more than 110 million barrels of oil and gas liquids and one trillion cubic feet of gas – enough energy to power a city of one million people for 20 years.

| Victorian CO2 capture an Australian first |

CO2 has been captured in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley from coal fired electricity generation for the first time in Australia, providing a significant breakthrough in the development of carbon capture technology.
The Latrobe Valley Post Combustion Capture Project uses technology which separates carbon dioxide from power plant flue gas, so it is then ready to be stored deep underground.

| Etihad Airways to start daily Melbourne flights |

Visitors to Melbourne from key markets including Abu Dhabi, the UK and Europe will have access to new non-stop daily flight services between Melbourne and the United Arab Emirates from early next year.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) carrier Etihad Airways is set to commence daily Airbus A340 services between Abu Dhabi and Melbourne in March 2009.

| Melbourne remains number one with business travellers |

Melbourne has been voted the most popular destination for business travel, according to accommodation website Wotif.com.
One in three (33%) business travellers surveyed chose the Victorian capital city above Sydney (27%), Brisbane (10%), Perth (9%) and the Gold Coast (7%) as part of Wotif.com’s annual business traveller’s survey.

| Green light for clean coal collaboration with China |

Victoria is on track to becoming the world leader in clean coal technology, with the Victorian Government giving the green light for construction to begin on a new $750 million power station in the Latrobe Valley.
The new plant, a collaboration between HRL, leading Chinese power station construction firm Harbin Power Engineering Company and the State and Federal Governments, is due to be operational by 2012/13 and will create 300 jobs during construction, with 36 ongoing jobs when the power station comes online.

Victorian innovation and sustainability have been recognised in the 2008 Premier’s Design Awards, a flagship event for the State of Design Festival.
Victorian Innovation Minister Gavin Jennings said the State of Design Festival includes over 45 public events and Design Capital, a major conference featuring local and international design industry leaders as well as an exhibition of the Premier’s Design Award winners at the Melbourne Museum.

| Melbourne secures Grand Prix for another five years |

Melbourne will host the Australian Grand Prix until at least 2015 after securing a new contract with Formula One Management in London.
Victorian Premier John Brumby said the Grand Prix was the jewel in Melbourne’s major events strategy.
