The world-class carbon dioxide storage project launched this month in Victoria’s south-west Otway region has drawn international attention to the state’s climate change research and already stimulated several billion dollars worth of proposals for clean energy developments in Victoria.

Victoria’s position as a global information technology hub has been further enhanced with one of India’s largest IT companies Satyam Computer Services to build a new software development and training campus just south of Melbourne at Geelong, Victoria’s second largest city.
The centre is expected to boost Victoria’s economy by around $175 million annually within a decade and create 2000 jobs.

Victoria’s status as a global leader in the development of renewable energy will be boosted by a $72 million Victorian Government fund for large-scale sustainable energy projects.
Opening the Victorian Climate Change Summit, Victorian Premier John Brumby said the $72 million fund would be used to breathe new life into large-scale renewable energy projects across the state, such as solar energy, wave power, geothermal and biomass conversion.

Unilever Australasia has invested $58 million in a new dry foods manufacturing plant in the Goulburn Valley region of northern Victoria, creating 134 new full-time jobs over the next five years.
The Tatura-based plant will create 96 jobs in its first year, heralding the start of a new era for the Goulburn Valley’s food industry.

In a boost to Victoria’s services sector, one of Australia’s leading insurance firms has invested $9 million in a new customer contact and training centre 50 kilometres north of Melbourne.
AAMI’s new state-of-the-art centre in Gisborne will create up to 200 new jobs by 2011 and service more than 6000 calls a day when it reaches full capacity.

An international study has again ranked Melbourne as the best location in the world for hosting major sporting events.
Melbourne retains its position as the Ultimate Sports City (2008) ahead of Berlin, Sydney, London, Vancouver, Paris, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Madrid and Hong Kong.
